Students of Chinga Boys High School in Nyeri county are mourning the death of their colleague whose body was found hanging from the dormitory roof.
According to school principal, Kiringo M’eringo, the body was found on the night of Monday, April 1, but it was not clear what made the student take his own life.
In a report by Citizen TV Deputy County Police Commander Boniface Wakhanu said the body was found hanging with a bed sheet tied around his neck but there was no suicide note left behind.
The student is reported to have committed suicide when the others were in classes for their evening preps.
The teenager, whose details have not been released as his family is yet to be informed about the matter, was set to sit for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams late in the year.
He is said to have been an average student and well behaved with no record of misbehaviour in the school.
M’eringo said he called Education Ministry officials and police officers who took over the matter.
The body was taken to Kiriani Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem to give more answers as to what transpired. The incident came barely days after another Form One student in Gatanga CCM Secondary School in Murang’a county, died mysteriously in the dormitory on the morning of Saturday, March 9.
