Britain will remain in the EU until Halloween unless Theresa May manages to finally break the Brexit impasse, it was agreed last night.
After six hours of negotiations at an emergency summit, EU leaders decided to delay the UK’s departure another six months until October 31.
However, they were also planning a symbolic review summit at the end of June to determine whether the UK was abiding by the terms of the deal.
It means Mrs May will be forced to hold European elections next month – three years after the British public voted to leave the EU.
Government insiders claimed she would stick to her plan to stay in place until a Brexit divorce deal was ratified by MPs and talks with the EU moved onto the future relationship.
