Police in Kenya Seize Somali Citizen After Prison Break

Detectives have launched investigations to establish true identity of a Somali suspect who had been arrested by officers from Pangani police station, but escaped from court before he was charged.

Report by People Daily Newspaper state that, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the suspect, booked as Prof Sufyaan Ahmed Mohamed, and a holder of a Somali passport, disappeared in unclear circumstances, allegedly with the help of officers.

The publication further states that the suspect was arrested on February 12 by officers from Eastleigh, according to

Nairobi regional police commander Philip Ndolo confirmed the matter was under investigations.

“He has been re-arrested and will be presented in court on Friday when detectives will have compiled a preliminary
report about how he escaped and those responsible,” he said.

Preliminary report It is not clear how he mysteriously disappeared from the precincts of the Makadara Law Courts where he, together with three others, were to be charged with being in the country illegally.
