Police in Bumula Constituency, Bungoma county is yet again on the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
This follows the gruesome murder of a 45-year old father of 5, Mr. Duncan Omoding Fungututi, at Myanga village on Wednesday 8:00p.m. by an administration police officer based at Myanga Police Post.
According to an eyewitness, trouble started when Fungututi, who until his untimely death was a security guard at the nearby Myanga secondary school, had some domestic squabbles with his wife.
It’s reported that the wife to the deceased rushed to the police station to report the matter and after a few minutes two AP officers accompanied her mother back to the house and forced him to open the door but he resisted.
This prompted the police to shoot and instantly killing him and later taking off with the wife and her two children in fear of public revenge.
This incident comes in the wake of unresolved insecurity incidences in the constituency.
The area member of parliament, Hon Mwambu Mabonga, heavily condemned the incidence accusing some of the police officers of laxity, negligence, incompetence and collusion with criminals.
“It is so unacceptable that the people charged with the responsibility of maintaining law and order and safeguarding lives are the ones terrorizing people. We are not going to condone this and I want to call upon the Independent Police Oversight Authority and the Ombudsman to swing into action to ensure justice is served,” he said.
He laments that despite having raised the of insecurity in his constituency in parliament and with the interior ministry as well as the Inspector General of Police, no action has been taken.
