Deputy President William Ruto close ally Rashid Achesa has got a reprieve as the court has ordered DCI to return back his guns and his range rover.
The senior principal magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot gave the orders after a successful application by Echesa’s lawyer Brian Khaemba directing the Director of Criminal Investigations to release his firearms, a P-Barreta FO 92 with serial number A022182Z and Ceska CZ with serial number 0641872, together with 9mm 104 calibre ammunition, 1 Ceska Magazine and three pistol hoisters to him.
“I find that and hold that the applicant is entitled to possess the firearm and to also enjoy his motor vehicle,” the court ruled today.
His lawyer said that Achesa needs back his cars back during this time of COVID rather than using public transport.
The DCI confiscated the items over the fake Sh40 billion military firearms tender that he is facing.
Echesa was arrested on February 13 and charged with several counts of fraud. His co-accused were Daniele Otieno, Clifford Onyango, Kennedy Mboya and Chrispin Oduor. They were granted Sh1 million bail each and the former CS was freed on February 17.
