Residents of Kajiado have been urged to remain vigilant after a surge in snake meat being sold as a fish fillet.
County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Isaac Meme says poachers are capturing the big snakes, skin and then sell them as fish fillet.
“In Kenya, it is illegal to poach snakes and sell them as white meat to unsuspecting consumers.” Meme warned.
In countries like China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, parts of India like Nagaland and Arunachal, In the US, places like Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and places around the Appalachian Mountains and the Rocky Mountains all eat snakes.
Commonly snakes survives in hot weather areas and Kajiado being one of them, makes it as best habitat for snakes.
The black mamba exists in the coastal districts, Kajiado, baringo, Bungoma, Kerio, Kitui, Makindu, Mara, Mwingi and Nandi hills.
