A traffic police officer stationed along the GPO roundabout along Kenyatta Avenue who was caught on camera forcefully entering a motorist’s vehicle through the left front window is now expected to face disciplinary action.
According to the National Police Service (NPS) who condemned the incident the officer has since been identified and disciplinary action will be instituted without delay.
“The National Police Service has taken note of an incident which has been trending on social media, whereby a police officer on traffic duties was captured forcing himself into a private vehicle,” read a statement by the NPS.
According to the viral video which saw a section of Kenyans condemn the incident, the officer could initially be seen engaging in a heated exchange with the driver of the vehicle. The situation however quickly escalated with the driver forced out of his vehicle while his passenger was left shocked.
The officer is later seen driving away with the vehicle and is said to have headed to the Central Police Station.
The driver of the vehicle at the time was unaccounted for.
“We reiterate that it is imperative for individual police officers to discharge their mandate professionally, diligently and with high levels of discipline,” NPS said.
Police officers have been urged to observe the laws they enforced failure to which will result in serious consequences as envisaged by the law.
