Atwoli moves to temporarily halt NSSF operations

The Employment and Labour Relations Court has temporarily suspended operations at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) board over failure to gazette the Central Organisations of Trade Unions (Cotu-K) nominee.

In a ruling delivered by Lady Justice Monica Mbaru ordered NSSF board to cease further operations until Labour Cabinet Secretary, Simon Chelugui, gazettes Cotu’s Executive Board member, Rose Omamo.

“It is hereby ordered that leave shall operate as stay restraining the CS and NSSF Board from convening for board matters in the absence of the Cotu’s representatives,” Mbaru ruled.

The orders were issued after Cotu Secretary General, Francis Atwoli moved to court challenging the decision by Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Labour of failing to gazette Omamo.

Through lawyer Samuel Aduda seeking orders to stop the operations of the NSSF board after Chelugui “irrationally” failed to gazette Omamo’s name.

Omamo is the Secretary General of the Amalgamated Union of Kenya Metal Workers who have over 10,000 members drawn from the motor assembly industry
