Construction of a 16 storey building at Taza Lane, Parklands Ward in Nairobi has been halted by a Nairobi environment court following a public outcry that petitioned the hazardous structure.
The developer contracted to construct the building, Ameey Homes was determined to complete the work fast to an extent of working during the night in order to evade inconveniences caused by the many cases facing the illegal development.
“I hereby order that there be no further developments on L.R. No. 209/7549 Taza Lane by the owners or developers or any other person pending the hearing and determination of the Petition filed by the area residents,” directed the Environment and Land Court Justice Angote.
The order will be enforced by Nairobi City County Officers led by the County Executive Committee Member for lands Stephen Mwangi among other officers named in the petition.
This comes barely a month after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja signed a bill to regularize all illegal developments in the City.
