Social media has been abuzz over concerns relating to price discrepancies in leading local supermarket Quick mart.
In their usual ebullience, many subscribers have shared their experiences and complaints with much gusto.
The scandal came after a disgruntled shopper posted a photo showing a big difference between the shelf price and the price at the checkout.
Without a doubt, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Local retailers may not escape the wrath of the customers who may have suffered a plethora of customer service-related problems.

A statement circulating online reads,” Quick mart supermarkets are just shameless thieves. If you go there, be sure to lose almost every item you buy.
This is done openly through the variation in shelf pricing and actual system pricing, In my case in the Kitui branch, I bought items whose prices were indicated on shelves, but when I paid the system charges more by adding certain amounts ranging from sh 23 to Ksh 100. When I complained, the manager tries to calm promising some rewards to buy my silence,”
COFEC through their Twitter confirmed to Kenyans that they had received similar complaints against quick mart.
The supermarket has been receiving a myriad of complaints as early this week, the NairobiCounty government shut down its Ruai branch.
The enforcement and technical team from public health in Nairobi County are now ensuring QuickMart Ruai supermarket remains closed until the management complies with the statutory notice and directives issued by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
The supermarket manager Nicholas Kinyua Kariuki and Erick Wanjala Wafula, compliance officer, had earlier been arrested.
The statement of the offense as per the court was emitting pollutants into the environment by burning waste and producing heavy smoke contrary to section 142(1) (b) of the environmental management and coordination act (EMCA) No. 75 of 2015, thereby polluting the environment.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said on Twitter that the supermarket will be allowed to resume operations upon meeting waste disposal requirements.
The governor shared on his Twitter feed pictures of waste reported to have been dumped on the roadside by Quicksmart.

Am also a victim of the same last week I expienced the same problem. Shocked to see the prices are quite different from the one on the shelf and the ones at the cashier. Did not understand but now I know.
Qm and the management knows very well what they are doing. They always set sales target, daily, weekly and monthly and because they know that reaching the set target is like killing an elephant with a needle, they will do two pricing at a time. On the shelf is lower price and system price is very high, a variation of almost 10bob. You will end up paying more than you thought. In so doing the target is reached and they will have successfully exploited you financially!! But it’s a new dawn. Let them watch out
