Shipping and Maritime Affairs Principal Secretary Geoffrey Kaituko witnessed the handing over of office between the outgoing and incoming Kenya Maritime Authority [KMA] board chairman during a ceremony held at Bahari Towers in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.
Present to also witness the brief ceremony were KMA board members.
Speaking to the media during the function the Shipping and Maritime Affairs PS said they had held a closed door board meeting before the handing over ceremony.
He defended the change of guard at the authority’s helm saying that President William Ruto has the prerogative of hiring and sacking.
“The Head of State was exercising his power when he appointed the authority’s new board chair through a gazette notice,” he said.
The PS witnessed Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed taking over from Hamisi Mwaguya as KMA board chairman.
During his remarks the outgoing chairman applauded the support he was given during his stay at the authority’s helm.
Mwaguya said during his tenure he has been able to succeed in seeing the building of more stories and new buildings to replace the old ones.
He added he has able to establish discipline in every department including maritime and training.
“And also in the recruitment of additional staff,” he disclosed.
Kolosh, being new to the authority, did not have much to but promised he was ready to learn and to explore.
He said the Head of State found it fit to move him from the road to the sea.
“I want to assure the board and the management that I will spend my time well,” he said.
