Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed his ministry and that of his counterpart in health are out to ensure parents of the learners are registered during the Social Health Authority [SHA] registration exercise which is underway.
He argued it’s not possible to register learners with the program on their own without their parents.
“My ministry is cooperating with the health ministry and we are collaborating though partnership with the coast region being the commencing point,” he disclosed.
Ogamba defended the collaboration of the two ministries saying they want to ensure both the learners and parents become beneficiaries of the program.
He was  speaking at St Charles  Lwanga Junior during the commissioning of three classrooms for grade 9 in Changamwe constituency, Mombasa county. The schools are under the sponsorship of the Catholic Church.
The Education CS has called on the parents of learners to make use of the  government effort to register as SHA members.
Ogamba, who was accompanied by President William Ruto’s Senior Advisor in his Council of Economics Moses Kuria, said they are both taking  data for learners who lack birth certificates.
He promised to share the data with the Interior Ministry whose officials are likely to tour the region by next week.
“We will ensure the issuance of the documents to puplis who don’t have them,” he pointed out.
The Education CS pointed out that the ongoing exercise which has began in Mombasa county is vital for a healthy nation.
