Siaya Deputy Governor Oduol Faces Possible Removal from Office as Impeachment Proceedings Commence

Lawyer Paul Nyamodi appeared before a special committee of the Siaya County Assembly on Thursday, representing Siaya deputy governor William Oduol. The purpose of the committee is to provide an opportunity for Oduol and the public to present their cases as the deputy governor faces possible removal from office.

The impeachment motion against Oduol is based on allegations of office misuse and gross misconduct. Oduol had previously made claims of corruption and mismanagement within the county executive, but the Siaya County Assembly found that he had not provided sufficient evidence to support his allegations, leading to the initiation of the impeachment process.

Accompanying Lawyer Paul Nyamodi are Oduol Aluoch and Patrick Baraza, who are also part of the legal team. As part of the proceedings, members of the executive, including County executive committee members Benedict Omollo (Finance), Agunda Ochanda (Governance), and Edgar Otumba (Education), are appearing as witnesses.

County Attorney Ambassador Richard Owade is present as an amicus curiae, providing legal advice and guidance during the proceedings. Other executive officials, such as Joseph Omondi (Governance Chief Officer), Jack Odinga (Acting Chief Officer Finance), Jared Abayo (Director of Public Participation), and Damiano Omollo (Administrator, Office of the Deputy Governor), are also involved in the hearings.

The special committee, chaired by Easy Yimbo MCA Francis Otiato and deputized by Dorothy Oinga, will submit its report to the Assembly on Thursday, June 8, 2023. The Assembly will then decide whether to proceed with the impeachment of Deputy Governor Oduol, based on the merits outlined in the special committee’s report.
