I’m told that ownership of this country, which is considered a private company, is controlled by two major communities. I don’t know since when, but I hear that the rest of us don’t matter; the country can continue to exist with or without us. And even if we are burning with problems, they suggest we should hang ourselves. They don’t care!
This reminds me of a very offensive statement, often used by the ‘Elder of the Nyororo,’ Atwoli, during the 2022 General Election campaigns: “Cut the trees!”
He meant that people from the Sugoi Village should cut down trees so that, if their famous son were defeated by ‘Babaman,’ he wouldn’t even find a tree to hang himself. People can be merciless!
However, as I reflect now, I see that the old man was somewhat gentlemanly; someone who doesn’t wish you death is still humane, even if they mock you for your troubles.
They want you to witness their pomp and extravagance, and even if you’re struggling, they’d rather you endure their annoyances. It’s strange!
In the context of Kenyan politics at this time, I think the two major communities that lead this country as if it were a stock company should show a little humanity.
Even if they deny us government jobs, i.e., if they take about 60% and leave us 40%, it’s better than wishing us death.
Despite grabbing all the well-paying jobs, these communities can show some kindness by cutting down trees, especially in areas inhabited by ‘sosa’ tribes, so that we don’t resort to hanging ourselves.
They need us here to help carry the heavy burden of debt and also to pay salaries to their leaders and special employees. How about that?
It’s not easy to be taxed, to help shareholders pay off China’s debt, and then be told that this is not your government or your country. It hurts a lot. Why are people so heartless?
What kind of tradition has been established in Kenya, where citizens are told they are not natives, as if they are refugees in their own country? Is this true civility?
Even if we wanted to disregard Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s statement that the Kenyan government is like a stock company, all signs indicate that this is the reality.
Even holy books tell us that we will know people by their actions, not just their words. You don’t need to insult me to show me you have ill intentions. Only actions will reveal your true intentions.
At a time when economic problems are affecting everyone, if you deny me a job and even make fun of me, you are either a tick, a worm, a larva, or a mixture of all of them! In other words, a bloodsucker to be thrown away! What do you want me to die of?
People who don’t want you to take pride in being Kenyan but rely on you to pay debts and even pay themselves salaries should be clever enough to prevent you from hanging yourself.
They should take care of the money-making machines like us, at least by cutting down trees or banning ropes, wires, and all kinds of fibers, just like they did with plastic bags, to ensure we are stuck.
In that case, they would have used their brains, kept us alive, sucked our blood until we wake up and tell them to stop! Until then, stay well and be drained.
