A day after popular Kikuyu artist Jimmy Wayuni perished in a grisly road accident along Thika road, questions have been raised why some Kikuyu musicians have resorted to speeding while drunk.

Wayuni was rushing home at night with his friend when he rammed into a lorry near Kahawa Barracks. He died while undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Now it has been revealed the artist was coming from a drinking spree. He visited two bars that before he decided to speed home.

According to fellow artists, it was usual for him to speed after swallowing some liqour.

His unfortunate death comes nine months after John De’Mathew perished in an accident near Blue Post Hotel, Thika.

De’Mathew was driving alone in a Nissan Navara pick-up when he rammed into a lorry.

He was coming from an event in Thika and was reportedly drunk. His colleague Mike Rua revealed they were such drunk he could not remember what they talked about and started crying.

Stories were warped to suppress the drunken driving issue but the same problem has claimed another artist.

A musician who spoke on condition of anonymity told Opera News that they are worried about fellow artists apparently not minding about their safety driving from events or pubs while drunk.

“During De’Mathew burial we wished somebody could touch on the matter but none did. Our artists are earning good money, buying good cars but when they drink they resort to speeding” the artist lamented.

Adding; “It is a sad issue but if some of us speak about it publicly they will treat us as enemies yet they are the people we rely on to grow in this industry”.

In August 2014, gospel singer Elijah Murugami succumbed to injuries after a road accident along the Northern bypass.

He too hit a lorry and unconfirmed reports indicated he was coming from an event he took ‘Something little form the road”.
