EACC yesterday obtained court orders freezing over Kes. 48M held by Wilson Kanani, a Nairobi City Hall employee who earns 55K monthly but has transacted Kes. 506.4M between Jan 2016 and Oct 2022 through bank accounts in his name, his companies, spouse and minor children.
Kanani, who is reasonably suspected of corruption, owns a house in Phenom Estate Langata, residential and rental properties in Busia, and Apartments in Langata and Kahawa. He is associated with 5 companies all of which are suspected to have traded with his employer.
Justice Esther Maina prohibited Kanani, his agents and servants from withdrawing, transferring, disposing of, wasting and/or in any other way dealing with the funds held in 11 bank accounts. He was also prohibited from any dealings with his two high-end motor vehicles.
Kanani’s duties at City Hall include regulation of outdoor advertisement, monitoring and surveillance of all outdoor advertisement and calling advertisers to comply with approvals and payments for advertisements.
