In a show of unity, eleven Senators from the Mt. Kenya region have pledged their unwavering loyalty to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The commitment was made during a meeting at Gachagua’s official residence in Karen, where the Senators also expressed their support for his political direction as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
The gathering was not only a demonstration of solidarity but also a platform to mend rifts between some Senators who had previously been critical of Gachagua.
According to a Senator present, those who had voiced opposition to Gachagua’s leadership now sought his endorsement, asking him to publicly support them during his visits to their counties.
Gachagua responded by emphasizing that he held no personal grudges against any leader and encouraged Senators to maintain strong ties with their electorate, stressing that the voters ultimately decide their political fates.
“I had a fruitful engagement with Senators from eleven Counties, to audit the success of Devolution in their respective counties. “Gachagua said.
He acknowledged that the electorate is eager for a clear political strategy for the upcoming elections.
The meeting also addressed the need to unite the Mt. Kenya region and revive stalled development projects, such as the Mau Mau roads initiated during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
Gachagua stressed the importance of regional unity in advocating for continued development.
“Continuous engagement with elected leaders is a catalyst to development for our People. It is also the best forum for feedback on what our employers think and feel about our leadership,”hhe said.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa underscored that the Senators’ discussions focused on devolution, highlighting their support for Gachagua as a unifying leader.
“We,the Mt. Kenya Senators had a productive discussion with Deputy President @rigathi about devolution, including our successes, challenges, and potential solutions. We fully support him as a unifying leader in our region and extend our prayers and best wishes,”Karungo said.
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja emphasized the forum’s commitment to regional and national transformation across various sectors.
Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who had previously supported Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a potential running mate for President William Ruto in 2027, also pledged support for Gachagua’s unity efforts.
Other Senators at the meeting included Senate Deputy Speaker Kathuri Murungi, Kamau Mulango (Kirinyaga), Mwenda Gataya (Tharaka-Nithi), Alexander Mundigi (Embu), John Methu (Nyandarua), Wahome Wamatinga (Nyeri), Kamau Githuku (Lamu), John Kinyua (Laikipia), and Veronica Maina (Nominated).
