Finance Cabinet nominee John Mbadi has pledged to criminalize the failure to pay pending bills if appointed, introducing stringent measures to address the issue of unpaid bills.

Mbadi, one of four opposition nominees in President William Ruto’s broad-based government, emphasized the need for firm action on pending bills. “We should criminalize failure to pay pending bills. As CS Finance, I will ensure that we have a system in place that prevents anyone from paying new bills while ignoring old ones,” Mbadi stated.

During his vetting, the ODM-nominated MP outlined his plan to implement a system prioritizing the settlement of old pending bills before addressing new ones. “Pending bills are often fictitious. We need a system where pending bill verification is unnecessary because it has become a method of avoiding payment of owed bills,” he explained.

Mbadi’s proposed measures aim to eliminate selective payment and ensure all bills are settled promptly, addressing the persistent issue of unpaid bills.
