President William Ruto has committed to granting local scholarships to students impacted by the halted Finland program.

Addressing Eldoret residents, the head of state pledged collaborative efforts with authorities post-investigation to support the affected students.

“As the investigation concludes, we will explore avenues to assist those students who faced challenges. These are our children, and we will strategize on providing them with local scholarships to continue their education,” President Ruto stated.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring a brighter future for the students, echoing their innocence and potential.

Nonetheless, Ruto issued a stern warning to individuals allegedly involved in embezzling millions from parents within the program. He condemned the actions, expressing his embarrassment and determination to prevent recurrence.

“Stealing funds intended for the education of young individuals in Uasin Gishu is disgraceful. Those responsible should be held accountable,” Ruto asserted. “Anyone who misused collected funds must take responsibility and arrange for restitution.”

He highlighted the financial burdens on parents, some of whom resorted to selling assets, including land, and stressed the importance of ensuring they are reimbursed.

In a parallel development, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago was arrested earlier this Wednesday due to his alleged involvement in the matter. Mandago, along with three other county officials, has come under scrutiny in connection with the Finland and Canada Overseas Education Programme. A Nakuru court issued an arrest warrant, paving the way for the senator to face a range of charges in court.
