Barely a day after the discharging of 371 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) the port of Lamu in Lamu county is expected to load the transshipment cargo of another first caller MV Derby D which is a record as a major milestone.
This marks the first-ever direct shipping link between Mombasa, Lamu, and Dar es Salaam.
The breakthrough strengthens Lamu’s role as a key maritime gateway, enhancing trade efficiency along the East African coast.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Captain William Ruto visited the Port to commend the workforce and inspect key facilities, underscoring Lamu’s operational readiness and future growth potential.
With the corridor now active, port officials anticipate increased shipping traffic, further establishing Lamu as a strategic hub in regional trade.
