Former Youth and Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has secured another state appointment under President William Ruto’s administration.

In a Gazette notice, Echesa has been named the new Chairperson of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, with his appointment effective from November 29, 2024, until May 18, 2026. The announcement by Labour and Social Protection CS Alfred Mutua also revoked the appointment of Ali Wario, who previously held the position.

“The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection appoints—RASHID ECHESA to be the Chairperson of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, with effect from November 29, 2024, up to May 18, 2026,” the notice reads.

This marks Echesa’s second high-profile role since President Ruto assumed office. In May 2023, he was appointed as the Chairperson of the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board.
