Four men have been found guilty of killing a 32-year-old woman in Kisii, over a land dispute.

The four are accused of killing Catherine Sarange, 32, in 2018, in the Jogoo area within Kisii County.

The 32-year-old woman was killed within her compound on 2nd June 2018. Her body was missing for two months.

Later, police would find her body parts in a sewer line near Kisii High School.

According to court documents seen by Shahidi News, the woman had filed a land case in court, after she was forced to sell her own land.

She was killed a day before the hearing of her case.

Joseph Adogo, Lameck Sakawa,Evans Ongeri and Ronald Ondieki were arrested after evidence linked them to the death of Sarange, in a case that attracted a lot of public interest.

At least 12 witnesses including Sarange’s children testified against the convicts.

The four suspects were charged in court and pleaded not guilty. They were released on a bond of Sh500,000 each.

While delivering the judgment Justice Rose Ougo said the court relied on the evidence provided by the witnesses including the circumstancial evidence, leading to the conviction of the four accused persons.

One of Sarange’s children told the court that they saw their mother being hit by a hammer. The farmworker, the child said, did it.

She warned against disclosing what she had seen to anyone.

The judge also relied on the postmortem evidence of saliva and mucus that was found on the woman’s body parts.

The body was already decomposed.

The body was decomposed to an extent of not indicating the cause of death.

Justice Ougo said circumstantial evidence linked the suspects to the scene of the killing, while the emotive was clear.

The four will be sentenced on April 21. They are being held at the Kisii Main prison after their bond was revoked.
