Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of lacking the moral authority to speak about corruption.

Speaking during a public gathering in Nairobi on Tuesday, Gachagua alleged that Ruto had been spreading false narratives about his removal from office. He criticized the President for labeling him as corrupt while deflecting his own accountability.

“He goes to Western and claims they removed me because I am corrupt,” Gachagua said. “William Ruto, do you have the moral authority to talk about corruption?”

The former DP further mocked Ruto over global corruption rankings, claiming that the President had recently been ranked among the most corrupt leaders in the world.

“We sympathize with you because recently, there was an opinion poll on the most corrupt person in the world,” Gachagua stated. “We are unhappy that you were rigged. Instead of giving you number one, they gave you number two.”

The remarks highlight the growing rift between the two leaders, who once ran on the same ticket in the 2022 general elections. Gachagua served as Ruto’s deputy until his impeachment in October 2024. Since his ouster, he has become a vocal critic of the administration, frequently accusing the President of betrayal and poor governance.

Gachagua has recently been rallying opposition leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, in what he calls a mission to “liberate the country” from Ruto’s leadership. He has vowed to block the President’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

The rivalry between Gachagua and Ruto continues to dominate political conversations as the former DP positions himself as a key player in the opposition’s efforts to challenge the current administration.
