Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly apologized to Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the esteemed mother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, for the discord that marred the political landscape in 2022.
During an interview with Kameme FM at his residence in Karen on Monday, Gachagua expressed sincere regret for the disrespectful conduct exhibited towards Mama Ngina amidst the heightened political activities of the previous general election.
Recognizing the divisive atmosphere prevailing at the time, Gachagua stressed the paramount importance of unity and reverence within the Mount Kenya community.
Promising to actively foster unity and reconciliation, Gachagua pledged to mend the wounds inflicted by past political rivalries, underlining the imperative to uphold respect for elders.
“In 2022, politics had regrettably sunk to a deplorable state. Insults were directed at Mama Ngina, and for this, I extend my heartfelt apologies. We earnestly seek her forgiveness,” stated Gachagua.
Additionally, Gachagua underscored the significance of honoring former President Uhuru Kenyatta, highlighting his pivotal role within the Kikuyu community.
He affirmed his willingness to engage with leaders from various political factions, emphasizing the importance of respecting Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy and leadership.
Condemning the divisive tactics witnessed during the 2022 elections, Gachagua vowed to champion a culture of unity and mutual respect across the nation.
He called upon the Mount Kenya community to unify their voices, citing the lessons learned from past divisions, particularly in the divisive 1992 elections.
Gachagua reiterated his commitment to engaging with all leaders in the Mount Kenya region, including church leaders and community elders, in a bid to foster cohesion and solidarity. He emphasized the urgency of unity, warning against the risks of speaking with divergent voices, which could impede development.
Furthermore, Gachagua announced his readiness to convene meetings with elders of the Mount Kenya region as part of efforts to promote integration and unity.
