Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Mount Kenya leaders to set aside succession politics and unite in the pursuit of development for the region.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kiambu during the burial of two relatives of Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, Gachagua emphasized the importance of working together to fulfill the promises made during the campaign.

“This is the time for unity of purpose. We must stop fighting each other and focus on delivering for our people,” Gachagua stated.

The Deputy President expressed his commitment to advocating for the interests of the Mount Kenya region, using an analogy of a rabbit tricking a hyena into fighting its own wife to caution against internal conflicts.

Gachagua also mentioned that he has no objection to the opposition being welcomed into the government but stressed that his priority remains the welfare of the Mount Kenya community.

He hinted that he would speak out and guide the community at the appropriate time.

“When the time comes, I will speak, and I know you will listen. Support leaders who are championing the interests of our community,” Gachagua urged.

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria echoed Gachagua’s sentiments, calling for unity and cautioning against letting succession politics divide the community.
