Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has played down the significance of the ongoing bi-partisan discussions between leaders of Azimio and Kenya Kwanza factions, suggesting that the focus of these talks fails to address crucial national issues.
Gachagua stated that the opposition group Azimio had little choice but to engage in these discussions, as the option of resorting to public demonstrations had become unfeasible.
“We’ve permitted individuals like Kimani Ichungwa and Aaron Cheruiyot to engage with the Azimio representatives to explore the topics they wish to discuss,” Gachagua explained.
Nonetheless, Gachagua maintained that the discussions would not revolve around matters like political handshakes or the allocation of governmental positions.
“They can deliberate on the logistics of transporting that elderly man to Bondo. In fact, they can question him on the delay in his trip to Bondo,” Gachagua quipped.

He emphasized that President Ruto and his team remained occupied with critical development-oriented concerns, thereby characterizing the boardroom talks as a futile waste of time.
Gachagua shared his comments during a visit to Eldoret town, where he oversaw the commencement of a new road construction project. In his statement, he underscored that the Azimio faction lacked the avenue to return to street protests, which have become increasingly unacceptable.
“We’ve effectively sealed off all avenues for them, leaving no room for protests,” Gachagua asserted.
Cheruiyot, a member of the talks, disclosed that he had set a condition for these discussions—recognition of President William Ruto by the Azimio representatives. Additionally, he pledged to ensure that any discourse regarding a potential political handshake remained off the table.
“We urge the citizens not to be concerned, as we are well-informed about our actions within these discussions,” Cheruiyot affirmed.
Gachagua extended a warm welcome to all Kenyans, inviting them to collaborate with the government in driving the nation’s development forward.
The Deputy President was accompanied by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Senator Jackson Mandago, and various local Members of Parliament during his visit to Eldoret.
