The Deputy Governor of Nyamira County, Dr. James Gesami, has denied allegations that he was involved in a plot to impeach Governor Amos Nyaribo.
The impeachment motion was presented in the Nyamira County Assembly by Esise Ward MCA Josiah Mang’era last week but failed to meet the legally required two-thirds majority vote.
After surviving the impeachment attempt, Governor Nyaribo told the media on Wednesday that he had evidence that his deputy had pressured some MCAs to remove him from office, a claim that Dr. Gesami has refuted.

Following his narrow escape from impeachment, Governor Nyaribo questioned Gesami’s whereabouts during the impeachment proceedings and alleged that he had influenced some MCAs to vote for his removal.
“Where was he? Ask him where he was during the battle. We have recordings of him talking to some MCAs, telling them to impeach me, and if you want, we can provide them,” Nyaribo claimed but did not provide the recorded conversations.
A day later, in a press statement, the former Mugirango West MP stated that he was not involved in any way in planning the failed impeachment motion.

“I would like to distance myself from claims that I paid some MCAs to impeach Nyaribo. I also dismiss claims that my wife was involved in this. If anyone has any evidence, they should present it,” Gesami said.
Nyaribo and Gesami have not had a harmonious working relationship. The two leaders had a falling out shortly after winning the Nyamira gubernatorial elections.
Their conflict began when Governor Nyaribo appointed his Cabinet. Dr. Gesami claimed that he did not receive a favorable deal in the appointments, as had been agreed upon before the elections.
Since that time, it has been rare to see the two leaders appearing together at public events.
Nyaribo narrowly avoided impeachment after 18 MCAs opposed the motion to remove him from office, while 16 MCAs supported it.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) party leader now considers the impeachment motion outdated and has called on the MCAs to work together to serve the residents of Nyamira.
