The aspirants have said that the governor is intimidating Jubilee aspirants allied to former cabinet secretary Sicily Kariuki and those against his re-election bid.
Kimemia is expected to face off with former cabinet secretary Sicily Kariuki popurarly known as Maitu wa Thayu na Wira during Jubilee party primaries.
About a month ago, Sicily received a huge boost after local artists ranging from church elders, musicians and media personalities endorsed her bid.
Her supporters’ recently paid Jubilee party officials a courtesy visit where they agreed to drum up support for the former minister, a move that didn’t go well with the governor.
Several sources have reported that since then, the governor has tainted the reputation of those allied to the former minister by sending his representatives to pose as supporters of his opponents.
According to John Mwangi, a local trader cum politician, governor spies are allegedly attending burials and wedding ceremonies with a brown envelope which is presented to the family while another one will just claim to be the supporter or messenger of his opponents and issue nothing a move that acts like incitement.
“This is very serious, the governor is allegedly sending two individuals to a burial, one would pose as his messagers and contribute money to the affected family, the second one ,still his messenger would pose as Sicily Kariuki massager and contribute nothing but a message of hope and this would anger his prospective supporters, “he said.
He noted that most of the aspirants have vowed to write a letter to the Jubilee party as well as IEBC complaining of governor behavior.
He added that the Jubilee party risks losing the party because of orthodox strategies that party aspirants are using.
Another aspirant who sought anonymity said that the ground has grown thorns toward Francis Kimemia and he has resulted in intimidation.
He said that the governor has his own selection of aspirants that he is campaigning with and doesn’t recognize those who have been against him.
“…we have seen coordinated harassment of Jubilee aspirants for gubernatorial, senate, Women Representative and Member of County Assembly positions, we won’t allow this and something has to be done, “he said.
He said that Female aspirants are mostly affected as the fear of having their private lives and that of their families exposed has been instilled.
“Some MCAs have recorded statements over what they termed as continuous intimidation and threats on their lives by the governor’s allies, “he said.
During the recent visit to the United States, Deputy President William Ruto singled out blackmail, threats and intimidation as some of the biggest impediments to democratic elections as Kenya braces for the August 9 general elections.
Contacted for comment, former cabinet secretary Sicily Kariuki said that most of the aspirants vying various seats have complained about intimidation, especially ladies.
However, Sicily said that she hasn’t encountered any intimidation and threat as she is focusing on the issues affecting the people of Nyandarua.
She expressed confidence that she will be the next governor of Nyandarua as the crowd has accepted her bid.
“I’m focused on selling my manifestos to the people of Nyandarua and I’m sure I will liberate them from bad leadership and take them to the Promised Land, “she said.
