Hipora Security Solutions Limited captained by John Wanjohi finds itself among eight other security firms whose operating licenses have been officially terminated.
Operating in Kenya since 2014, with branches in East Africa (Uganda and Tanzania), Hipora East Africa Limited has been providing integrated manned security, security technology solutions, and business solutions tailored to meet various security needs.
The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) issued a gazette notice on Tuesday, publicly listing the companies and citing their regulatory violations as grounds for the license cancellations.
Fazul Mahamed, the Director General of PSRA, emphasized that the companies had breached provisions outlined in the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016.
Mahamed highlighted multiple infractions, including violations of the terms and conditions associated with their certificates of registration as corporate private security service providers and non-compliance with minimum wage regulations.
Additionally, the companies were found to have contravened Section 33 of the Act by employing or engaging private security personnel without adherence to regulatory guidelines.
In the official notice, Mahamed stated, “Pursuant to Sections 10 (c), 31 (b), and 32 of the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016, the Authority hereby notifies users, prospective users, representatives of users of private security services, and the general public that it has, with immediate effect, canceled the certificates of registration and licenses of the Private Security Companies listed in the schedule hereto.”
Mahamed reminded the public of the legal consequences for engaging the services of unlicensed private security firms, noting that such actions constitute an offense.
He said that said the law says anyone who hires, employs or otherwise engages the services of any unlicenced private security firm commits an offense and shall be liable to a fine or to both such fine and imprisonment in the case of a natural person and Sh2 million in the case of a corporate.
“The purpose of this notice is to bring this information to the attention of users, prospective users or representatives of users of security services and further advice that they must not procure, hire or otherwise engage security services from the above listed non-compliant private security companies.”
The notice serves as public advisory, urging users, prospective users, and representatives of security services not to procure, hire, or engage security services from the non-compliant private security companies listed.
Other affected companies include Victory Protective Services Africa Limited, Victory Consultants Limited, Bedrock Security Services Limited, Bedrock Security Alarms Systems and Product Limited, Senaca East Africa Limited, Salama Fikira International (Kenya) Limited, Marco Security Limited, and Superb Marketing Solutions Limited.
