How fugitive Billionaire Wambui wa Ruto and Her Daughter Escape Police Trap at a Nairobi Hotel

Mary Wambui, the controversial billionaire being sought after by police is still in Kenya and not across the borders as it was initially thought.

Wambui who is fondly called “Wambui wa Ruto” and her daughter Purity Njoki are the directors of Purma Holdings Limited.

The two are being sought over evasion of tax amounting to Sh2.2 billion.

Last night they were ambushed at a city hotel where they managed to escaped but left behind some evidence.

Word has it they were hiding at Weston Hotel owned by Deputy President William Ruto.

According to the officials of Kenya Revenue Authority trailing her, they escaped from their rooms shortly after cops arrived there.

In their rooms detectives found personal belongings that included money, bank cards and car keys.

It is suspected they were assisted by the hotel staff to sneak out before cops pounced on them.

Police cordoned off the hotel in search of them but were unsuccessful by this morning.

Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Felix Mutinda Kombo issued a warrant of arrest for the two to answer eight counts of knowingly and unlawfully omitting taxes due in the income tax returns.

They have evaded taxes between 2014 and 2016.

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro who is acting as their lawyer claimed that Wambui had been hospitalised but he is yet to give the medical records or disclosure of illness or hospitalization.

Wambui who hails from Gachinja village of Gatundu South is a big financier of politicians including Ruto.

He funded Jubilee campaigns in 2013 and 2017 and was key in the election of Ferdinand Waititu as Kiambu Governor.

Being government started pursuing her, Wambui was chauffeured around in pricey cars and accompanied by armed security detail even when going out to drink.

It is said the security included GSU officers attached to the office of Ruto.
