After businesswoman Monica Kimani was murdered in gruesome manner at her Apartment in Kilimani in September 2018, the case was presented to Justice Jessie Wanjiku Lessit when Joseph Irungu alias ‘Jowie’ was arrested.

Days later after then Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe was arrested in connection with the murder, Justice Lessit withdrew from from the case and delegated it to Justice James Wakiaga.

Many did not know why the no-nonsense Judge opted out of the case that has drawn public attention but it was because of Dennis Itumbi’s relationship with Maribe.

Itumbi, the former State House Digital Director was rumored to be Maribe’s lover while on the other hand Justice Lessit is Itumbi’s relative. So the high-ranking Judge withdrew from the case to avoid conflicts.

Justice Lessit is the head of Milimani High Court Criminal Division. She is currently tackling high-profile cases including that of Migori Governor Okoth Obado who is charged with murder of his young lover. So that of Jowie and Maribe was not any tough to her were it not for Itumbi’s factor.

Justice Lessit and Itumbi’s mother are cousins. So, the Judge is Itumbi’s auntie.

Itumbi even appeared in courtroom to give Maribe and Jowie moral support and even enjoyed being photographed while hugging her.

Monica had arrived from South Sudan, reportedly with huge amounts of money. Her businesses there raised motley of questions.

She was found dead in a bathtub with her neck slit ear to ear at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi.

After arrest of Jowie who had months earlier proposed to Maribe, the TV journalist was apprehended and linked to the murder. Both are out on cash bails.
