How Mutahi Ngunyi Met His Kalenjin Wife

Political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi seems to oppose the political rise of one of Kalenjin’s leader Deputy President William Ruto but unknown to many the brilliant analyst is their son-in-law.

Mutahi, a Kikuyu has a Kalenjin wife. Her name is Dr Judith Lang’at Mutahi and interestingly they met at a wedding in Nairobi.

He has kept his family away from the public limelight but Mutahi and Judith for 28 years and have three daughters. All educated abroad and two are lawyers and the other an economist.

The couple lost a boy before he was born.

So how did they meet? Mutahi was brought up in Maringo Estate in Eastlands while Judith grew up in USA.

Mutahi was a church boy and at age of 15 he was the church pianist. Their church was strict so even when in high school he did not have a girlfriend.

One day he was playing piano for wedding of a friend at Citam Church along Valley Road. That time he was 28 years old.

Judith was in this wedding also playing piano for a girl who was performing for the newly-weds.

They were playing different styles, so Judith asked Mutahi they compare their notes and that moment the political analyst saw the opportunity to know her better.

“I grabbed the chance and I gave her my number which was a landline number of a booth near our home” Mutahi revealed in a past interview.

The church they met and started dating.

They started talking and would set the next day and time when Mutahi would be at the telephone booth for a talk.

With time they loved each other, started having dates and then got married.

They own “The Consulting House” company which sometime back was paid Sh90 million for restructuring of NYS.

Kind of telephone that enabled Mutahi link up with Judith.

The wife is also director of their Fort Hall School of Government.
