How university graduate landed international job after two months

What is the longest distance you have ever walked in this city? I once walked from Githurai to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for a job interview.

Yes, I followed Thika Superhighway to Alsop’s, then took Outering road, to Kariobangi junction. From there I walked to Donholm, then to Pipeline, Cabanas and then JKIA.

Unfortunately, I reached the interview late and was told the job had been taken by someone else. So, I had to walk back to where I was staying. Let me not even start about my hunger. I hadn’t eaten anything that morning and the previous night.

The interview I was going to attend was for some cleaning company. They wante someone to clean toilets and the pay was 18,000 per month. Yes, I walked from Githurai to JKIA for a job that pays less than 20k and still missed.

Of course, this is not what I had expected life to throw at me when I graduated with a Second Class Upper Degree in Computing and Statistics from UoN. I thought I would land some executive job somewhere.

But here I was, tarmacking in Nairobi like it was the end of life.

Before I walked to JKIA, had stayed at my friend’s place for three months after being fired from a Wines and Spirits’ shop in Langata. I had worked there for three months without pay. When I asked for my money, the owner said I was being rude and fired me on the spot. Earth is hard.
