The media industry has been advised to adapt to rapid challenges in technology to remain relevant to their audiences.

Speaking at a Spark Discovery Kenya Media & Entertainment Summit in Nairobi, organized Huawei Cloud for the media industry players in Kenya, Standard Group’s Innovation and Content Editor Broadcast, Kizito Namulanda said the traditional media was facing challenges from technology, “but isn’t entirely a bad thing.”

“Traditional media is facing challenges because of technology, but it’s a good thing because the world and our audiences have changed and to respond to these changes, we need technology. That’s why we see it as an opportunity to meet our viewers’ needs and we are happy to team up with big tech companies like Huawei,” Mr. Namulanda said.

“For instance, we use to have designated time for news – 7 o’clock, and 9 o’clock for evening news- now people are on the go and to be able to serve them we need technology, and we are happy to work together with Huawei on this front,” he said.

At the Summit, the Standard Group signed a Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei and leading new media platform Mango TV that will enable Group to adopt cutting-edge technologies, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional experiences to its audiences.
