“Why spend millions of money to build classes for nursery kids? I will utilise our church buildings and make them serve as ECDE centers. Churches are everywhere and therefore they can be accessed easily and they are only used on Sundays,” alluded Kariuki.
Supremacy battles between former Water CS, Sicily Kariuki, and the current Nyandarua Governor, Francis Kimemia, have continued to play ahead of the Jubilee party primaries.
The two will be seeking the Jubilee party nomination ticket to contest for the gubernatorial race in the August polls.
While attending a political interview at Kameme TV, the former Water CS said that once elected to be the governor of Nyandarua county, she will convert churches to also serve as centers for Early Childhood Education (ECDE).
Kariuki added that there is no need of spending millions of money to build new classes while most church buildings lie idle from Monday to Saturday.
She argued that churches are only used for one day in a week. She further noted that since churches are spread out in all corners of the villages, students will have easier access to their ECDE centers.
“Why spend millions of money to build classes for nursery kids? I will utilise our church buildings and make them serve as ECDE centers. Churches are everywhere and therefore they can be accessed easily and they are only used on Sundays,” alluded Kariuki.
This controversial promise has raised eyebrows among Nyandarua residents. Some feel that Kariuki is not being realistic because some churches are individually owned and you can’t channel government resources to a personal property.
Others feel that there are other activities which go on in churches during the week days and this can interfere with the learning of the kids.
