President William Ruto’s allies , blogger Dennis Itumbi, and lawyer Miguna Miguna have joined those demanding justice following the brutal murder of the popular blogger in Meru County, Daniel Muthiani, also known as ‘Sniper.’
Itumbi questions the apparent inaction of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding the investigation into the murder and the arrest of suspects. He also criticizes what he claims is the silence of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on the matter.
“So, one suspect was arrested in connection to Sniper’s abduction, but the ODPP did not provide direction on his prosecution. The DCI told the court they are waiting for the ODPP. Why is this office delaying this matter? Why is the DPP silent both inside and outside?” complained Itumbi.
On his part, Miguna Miguna expressed dissatisfaction with the silence of Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome regarding Muthiani’s murder.
The lawyer urged Kenyans to seek the truth from security officials about the blogger’s killing, citing it as an extreme manifestation of the rampant disregard for the law in the country.
“Kenya is a country full of heinous acts and contempt for the rule of law. On this Christmas day, Kenyans want to hear from the DCI and Japhet Koome about the brutal murder of Sniper!” wrote Miguna on his social media page, formerly known as Twitter.
Muthiani’s body was found dumped in the Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County on December 16, 2023, a few days after his disappearance on December 2, 2023.
An autopsy conducted by the Government Chief Pathologist, Dr. Johansen Oduor, at Marimanti Level 4 Hospital revealed that Sniper was tortured before being brutally murdered.
His body had wounds on the neck, several broken ribs, and head injuries.
