Former State House digital director Dennis Itumbi yesterday asked the court to supply him with proceedings in a case he is charged with authoring a fake letter regarding an alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.
When the matter came up for mention before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Susan Shitubi, Itumbi, through his lawyer Katwa Kigen told the court that he wants the proceedings to be typed and supplied to him before taking the hearing date.
Put on their defence The magistrate, however, directed the matter to be mentioned on January 31, 2022.
In September 2021, the then trial magistrate Martha Mutuku placed Itumbi and his co-accused, blogger Samuel Gateri on their defence after the prosecution proved its case against them.
“Having analysed the evidence before court, I find that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt to warrant the accused to be placed on their defence,” Mutuku had ruled.
Itumbi and Gateri are charged with publishing a false statement, contrary to Section 66(1) of the Penal Code.
