Jimmy Wanjigi Approached to be Mt Kenya’s Presidential Candidate in 2022

Some Central Kenya leaders have mooted plans to have billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi replace President Uhuru Kenyatta as Mt Kenya leader and then battle it out with Deputy President William Ruto in 2022 presidential polls.

They have approached the tycoon to take over the mantle from Uhuru. Secular artist Kimani wa Turacco who is part of the group yet to come out publicly has started releasing songs praising and drumming support for Wanjigi.

“We have settled on Wanjigi to lead Mt Kenya region and come 2022 to face Ruto in the race. We cannot hand Ruto our numbers just like that” Wa Turacco says.

Mt Kenya region is in a political dilemma as Uhuru term comes to an end. No leader the community has settled on to lead the region.

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru are jostling for the Mt Kenya Kingship post. The entry of Wanjigi has been a king maker, playing behind the scenes will heighten the political battle.

The billionaire funded Jubilee party in 2013 elections but later fell out with Uhuru and Ruto. Uhuru and Wanjigi were long-time buddies before they clashed after Jubilee won the elections

In 2017 the tycoon financed National Super Alliance (NASA) and during the protests over Jubilee’s second win, Wanjigi was harassed by the Uhuru administration.

Wa Turacco who has composed songs criticising Ruto and telling him plainly to forget the region has since released song in praise of Wanjigi.

“This is the beginning. Once we Coronavirus is over we will embark on a massive campaign. We want a leader who can safeguard our people and interests” he says.

The artist is challenging other Kikuyu singers led by Muigai wa Njoroge who are composing songs praising Ruto and drumming support for his 2022 presidential bid.
