Jubilee party has intensified its grassroots mobilization ahead of the August general election move that has the backing of influential party officials from the region.

The outfit has mobilized resources and have pitched a tent in the region where they have been meeting grassroots leaders in what they call ‘on-ground activation forums’ and informing them of the party’s activities and plans as it heads into August polls.

The Jubilee MPs believe that their plans will rejuvenate their party, whose fortunes have dwindled with the departure of Ruto and his UDA party team. Ruto’s team from the region is reportedly giving them headache.

4,000 Jubilee delegates to endorse Raila at NDC

The DP through his allies from the region has been warning electorates from the region against supporting Raila Odinga whom they have termed as a state’s project.

However, Jubilee is currently banking on the influence of its members among them nominated MP Maina Kamanda, Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo), Nduati Ngugi (Gatanga), Peter Kimari (Mathioya), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa) and former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura.

Others are Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town), Sabina Chege (Murang’a), James Nyoro (Kiambu), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Waihenya Ndirangu (Roysambu) and former CS C Kariuki and Kiambu Deputy Governor Joyce Ngugi among others.

The party youth league is led by nominated senator Isaac Ngugi, Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe and social media activist Pauline Njoroge among others.

During the recent interview with the media , nominated senator Isaac Ngugi said that the Jubilee has regained its lost glory as it was claimed by their opponents.

The senator said that the party has opened doors for former leaders to rejoin the party noting that most of them have approached the party officials intending to rejoin.

He said that once president Uhuru Kenyatta visits the rejoin, the party will have more members joining.

“The Jubilee is the party is back to its roots and we are confident that we will have more aspirants, “he said.

He said that most of the leaders eyeing to join the party are defecting from the Ruto’s party UDA.

He said that the party will conduct a free and fair nomination exercise and support whoever will win during the nomination.

The Jubilee party secretary general Jeremiah Kioni during the recent television interview (Inooro TV) said that they will leave anything to chance.

Kioni rallied the party of Mount Kenya to support the Jubilee party terming it as the vehicle for the region.

He said that the party is planning to finance and campaign for its candidate to counter opposition from the region.

“The Jubilee party is back and you will start seeing us moving around the country and holding meetings with community leaders to identify strong candidates to face off with their opponents in the coming election, “he said.

He added that president Uhuru Kenyatta still command the region’s politics and people will rally behind him and his party.

He called the regional leaders to have faith in the party as it will deliver the region kept promises.

“Imagine other party leaders have trust in Uhuru to negotiate for them in Azimio, what about us people from his region? We should accord him the support needed ahead of august,” Kioni said.

The MP urged residents to ensure the region does not allow the party to die since it’s the vehicle that their leadership will use in bargaining for seats in the next government

Nominated MP Maina Kamanda recently said that the region will use various methods to determine the most influential candidates to carry the party flag.

He said that those who will not be lucky will be accommodated in the next government.

“We will put everything into consideration, the party in some instances will be forced to handpick candidates and award their tickets,” Kamanda said.

He cited his case of vying for the Nairobi senatorial seat where he said he is awaiting the party approval if he will be chosen among the favourite.

He said that this will help to counter deputy president William Ruto in having more seats in the parliament.

“It’s true DP Ruto has following from the Mount Kenya region and in Nairobi but we are coming up with various strategies to counter him, “he added.

About two weeks ago, Jubilee supporters in Nyeri County claimed that they are being intimidated and harassed by UDA supporters and security officers.

They called on their party officials as well as the Independent Electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) to intervene.

Mount Kenya MCAs caucus chairman Charles Mwangi Ng’ang’a has said that the party has gained a lot and the party on the ground has shown interest to support it.

He called on party officials to assure members of a fair nomination exercise.

Mr Ng’ang’a said that President Uhuru Kenyatta should hold numerous grassroots meetings with leaders.

He said this will help to turn tables on Ruto.

“It’s only Uhuru who has enough authority to influence his supporters as far as we are trying on the ground, “he said.

President Kenyatta has vowed to ensure that the party retains a majority in the National Assembly and Senate in the next administration, as well as get a majority of governors and MCAs.

Kiambu governor James Nyoro and his Nyandarua counterpart Francis Kimemia have been rallying the region to support the party.
