The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and Digital Economy, William Kabogo, on Monday, January 20, 2025, toured the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), promising to implement reforms to make the station more competitive in the media industry.
Kabogo, who assumed office just two days earlier, emphasized the need for modernization and efficiency to restore KBC’s position as a leading broadcaster in the region.
“We are committed to streamlining KBC and equipping it to compete effectively in today’s dynamic media landscape,” Kabogo said. “The station holds a legacy that we must modernize and build upon to remain relevant in a digital-first era.”
The former Kiambu governor outlined plans to focus on enhancing the station’s technological capabilities, improving content quality, and fostering financial sustainability. He acknowledged the challenges the broadcaster has faced and assured staff of the government’s support in overcoming them.
Kabogo also highlighted the importance of public broadcasters in shaping narratives and providing balanced, factual news, stating that KBC would play a pivotal role in informing and educating the public.
The visit marked the CS’s first major engagement since taking office, signaling a proactive approach to revamping Kenya’s information and communication sector.
