Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, stated on Friday, October 14, 2023, that he is ready to lead and rescue the Mount Kenya region from the economic challenges facing its residents.
While he mentioned that his intention is not to take leadership from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kabogo said, “My intention arises from a call I’ve received from the locals.”
“The truth is, the people of Mount Kenya are hurting. They are suffering under the leadership of Kenya Kwanza government. The leaders we elected seem like they are afraid. I will be like Noah, to rescue them from the chains of economic suffering they are currently going through,” Kabogo said.
He was speaking at a funeral event in Kiambu County.
Kabogo served as the governor of the county between 2013 and 2017. His efforts to regain the position in the 2017 and 2022 elections were unsuccessful.
During the event, Kabogo strongly criticized the Kenya Kwanza government, stating that despite making many promises to the Mount Kenya residents, especially the One Man, One Shilling, One Vote system, they have remained silent.
“This is the system that would save the Mount Kenya resident who relies on agriculture and business for economic development. Instead of receiving ‘thank you’ for the numerous votes we gave to the Kenya Kwanza coalition, we have received kicks,” he said.
He mentioned that he has already been “blown the whistle by the locals” to take the lead.
“You all know that I’m not a timid leader at all. I do what I say. I have been told to take the lead. Why should I change my stance? I am ready to lead them, just as Moses led the Israelites to Canaan,” Kabogo said, receiving cheers from the mourners.
Kabogo is the leader of the Tujibebe Wakenya Party (TWP).
