Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Kanini Kega, has criticized the government of President William Ruto, accusing it of further marginalizing the Mount Kenya region, while claiming that the country’s leader has already engaged in a secret “handshake” with Azimio’s leader, Raila Odinga.
Kega also announced that the Jubilee party will field a presidential candidate in 2027, blaming President Ruto for sidelining Central Kenya and stripping its people of government positions.
“President William Ruto and Raila Odinga had a handshake a long time ago. It’s just that this time, the handshake wasn’t photographed outside Harambee House,” Kega said in an interview on Inooro TV on Monday, October 23, 2023.
“Ruto is welcomed and embraced by leaders from the Nyanza region at public rallies. What about our Gachagua? We shouldn’t appear as if we are the only ones opposing national unity!”

Kega also seemed to absolve Azimio’s leader of responsibility for the challenges facing Central Kenya. He urged politicians who had perpetuated the notion of fighting President Uhuru Kenyatta on the high cost of living to apologize, stating that Kenyans are still suffering, and the UDA government is doing the same things as its predecessor.
“Politicians from the Mount Kenya region have been promoting the idea that the region’s problems are caused by Raila Odinga. Now they have encountered the reality that the challenges in Mount Kenya stem from low agricultural incomes, unemployment, alcohol consumption, drug abuse, poor trade policies, and issues that do not involve Mr. Odinga.”
“President Ruto is dismissing government employees from the Mount Kenya region without filling their positions with people from the same region. When electricity was lost across the country, he fired employees at our airport while electricity is neither generated nor connected to the airport!”

Regarding former Minister of Trade Moses Kuria, Kega said that Kuria, who was transferred to the Ministry of Public Service, failed to promote Kenya as a major business attraction in the East African region.
“During his tenure in that ministry, he never attended a single strategy planning meeting on how Kenya could benefit from the opportunities within the East African Community.”
While warning about divisions in the Central Kenya region, he called on the council of elders of the community to accept Deputy President Gachagua as the spokesperson for Mount Kenya, succeeding former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Regarding the challenges facing the Jubilee party, Kega called on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, to officially declare the party as self-managing. He said this move would enable the Special Member of Murang’a County, Sabina, who is targeted by Azimio, to take the reins as the Jubilee Whip from the Minority Whip.
