Kenya has made a major move to improve its defense and intelligence operations by acquiring six more Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey.
This acquisition is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance its ability to tackle security threats both within the country and in the region.
According to chimp reports online publication, the drones, which were received by Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), will help in surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations, especially in areas with high terrorist activities and cross-border crime.

The reports state that the purchase of these unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) marks a significant step in Kenya’s defense modernization. It also signals the strengthening the relationship between Kenya and Turkey, particularly in the defense sector.
Kenya has worked closely with countries like the United States and the United Kingdom in matters of security sector , but this latest deal shows the government’s willingness to diversify its military partnership.
The Bayraktar TB2 is a highly advanced combat drone manufactured by Baykar,TB2 has the ability to travel for a long distance and it would help Kenya to track and to neutralize threats from terrorists groups like Al-Shabaab, which has continued to pose a security risk.

Although the cost of the purchased drones hasn’t been made publicly by the government, a single Bayraktar TB2 drone is estimated to costs between $5 million and $10 million depending on the package.
This include weapon ,training and also spares of the drone.If kenya would manage to buy six drone the estimated price would be KSH,5.76 billion.
Kenya and Turkey are working together to enhance more opportunities to their respective Countries in areas such as military training partnership , and future collaborations in security matters.
