Kenya-Azerbaijan solidify diplomatic ties to combat soaring impacts of climate crisis as two nations mark 20 years of collaboration

Azerbaijan has taken action by issuing a presidential declaration stating year 2024 as the “Green World Solidarity Year.”

This slogan underlines the country’s commitment to the global fight and places a greater focus on building partnerships at the national, regional, and international levels. Also, playing a role of a bridge between developing and developed countries.

This comes a week ago, after Kenya experienced a disaster in the form a nation wide floods, and according to the statistics from the official sources, more than 1.8 million people have suffered from disaster.

This tragedy again clearly poses that the climate change effects serious threat to the national security, public safety and the ecological sustainability.


“And today Azerbaijan NGO’s as an act of friendship will take a part at the “National tree growing day”, dedicated to the people who suffered from the natural disaster change – flood” implored Aygun Aliyeva member of organizing committee COP29 Executive Director of the state supporting agency of NGOs of Azerbaijan

The two countries have been in fruitful diplomatic relations for 20 years. Following soaring effects of climate change, the two nations have agreed to foster a robust collaboration initiatives with an aim of addressing pressing global concerns.

Azerbaijan Ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev said his country will stand in solidarity to support Kenya during this difficult situations.

” NGOs has an important role in solving climate change menace. As a nation we look forward to reinforce and make sure are there more people staying in touch discussing issues of common interests. Kenya has faced a tragic incident of climate disaster which has taken over 200 lives, we are going to continue strengthening our relations to achieve a common goal” Ambassador Hajiyev lamented

The upcoming COP29 in Baku will presents a crucial platform for Kenya to contribute to international efforts aimed at mitigating the impact of climate change on a global scale.

Ambassador further explained the two countries will continue to enhance climate change solution and Kenya will therefore represents Africa in COP29 UN climate change mitigation in Azerbaijan.
