Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, met with a delegation from TikTok at the Ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting, led by TikTok’s Director of Communication, aimed to explore new avenues for collaboration and support the growth of Kenyan content creators on the platform.
Kenya has established itself as a major hub for TikTok, with the platform witnessing substantial engagement from Kenyan users.
In 2023, Kenya accounted for a notable 54% of TikTok’s activity, underscoring the platform’s popularity and potential for economic growth. This trend is consistent with broader digital trends in Africa, as highlighted in the Digital 2024 report by DataReportal.
CS Kabogo emphasized the importance of ensuring that Kenyan creators have equal opportunities to monetize their content on TikTok, similar to creators in other countries.
“Kenya continues to be a global leader in TikTok usage, accounting for 54% in 2023. This platform has created immense opportunities for Kenyan content creators to monetize their creativity and reach global audiences.,” he stated.
