Preacher Toufik Benedictus Benny Hinn stirred controversy in the country over the past weekend as he led a massive prayer gathering for the ‘healing of the nation’ at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
The American-Canadian preacher had been invited by the Kenyan government for the purpose of ‘healing the nation’.
However, the reality is that Benny Hinn left Kenya burdened with more ailments than he found.
To ascertain whether Benny Hinn healed Kenya or not, we need to scrutinize the chronic diseases afflicting the country.
Firstly, Benny Hinn’s meeting contributed to one of these issues – the misappropriation of public funds to organize the event.

Millions were spent on placing hundreds of banners across Nairobi and hiring trucks and individuals to canvass the city, urging residents to attend the ‘healing’ prayers.
Although the First Lady, Rachel Ruto, insisted that the meeting was funded by churches, signs strongly indicate the misuse of public funds.
If indeed the meeting was funded by church leaders, it means that the “servant of God” Benny Hinn lied about it being sponsored by the government.
All government officials, including President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, attended the meeting – a sign that it was not an ordinary gathering. The Head of State even wore a suit similar to Benny Hinn’s. This suggests close communication between the preacher and the presidency.
Minister of Public Service Moses Kuria was quoted saying that the meeting was a government event.
Benny Hinn’s intervention in the Israel-Palestine conflict also tarnished Kenya’s image as a nation endorsing the ongoing killings in the Gaza Strip. Minister Kuria had to reprimand him, asserting that Kenya does not support those killings.
Benny Hinn has also left local preachers who went to ‘receive healing powers’ from him at Nyayo Stadium in distress.
