Kiambu governor candidates go for women running mates to appeal to the women’s vote

Kiambu governor race is expected to be a grueling battle that has so far attracted about five aspirants. 

Interestingly three of the candidates are in the Kenya Kwanza alliance that is led by deputy president William Ruto have settled for women as their running mates to attract women, voters, ahead of the August election.

Former Kiambu Governor and Tujibebe Wakenya Party William Kabogo is keen on recapturing a seat he lost in the 2017 elections.

The aspirants are poised for a major showdown to oust the incumbent governor James Nyoro who will be defending his seat on Jubilee ticket.

Kabogo served as the first governor of Kiambu County and was ousted by Waititu in the 2017 elections and was later replaced by his deputy James Nyoro after he (Waititu) was impeached.

Kabogo unveiled Esther Ndirangu who served in his administration as CECM for Education and Social Services.

Kabogo termed her as an experienced and dedicated leader who will help him deliver on the promises to the people of Kiambu.

 “She is an experienced International Specialist with a demonstrated history of working in the education management industry, skilled in Educational Assessment, Secondary Education, Educational Consulting, Lesson Planning, and Educational Technology, ‘he said.

He noted that he opted to pick her after extensive consultation with grass-root leaders and also he considered her commitment when she served in his cabinet.

Kabogo was optimistic that his choice of a running mate will end years of supremacy battles in Kiambu that have frustrated its development agenda.

He said that his administration will help to eradicate poverty and will enhance resources to empower youths as was his agenda in the first term.

The duo will be vying for the Tujibebe Wakenya ticket and will be expected to face off with Wainaina Jungle (Independent), Moses Kuria (CCK), James Nyoro (Jubilee), and Kimani Wamatangi (UDA).

Thika town MP Wainaina Jungle appointed Uhuru’s cousin Annah Nyokabi Gatheca as his preferred running mate.

Wainaina while unveiling Nyokabi said she will be bringing her leadership prowess to his team and has served as the region’s first Woman Representative.

Nyokabi on the other hand has described Wainaina as a development-oriented leader and someone who is not tainted with graft.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria also appointed former Roysambu parliamentary aspirant Faith Mwaura as his running mate.

Speaking at Chama Cha Kazi’s offices at Garden City, Kuria lauded Mwaura as one who brings lots of expertise to his to-be administration.

“Faith Mwaura (running mate) holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Masters of Science in Real Estate from Scotland,” Kuria said at the unveiling event.

The incumbent governor James Nyoro also unveiled June Njambi Waweru as his running mate.

“In my consideration for Deputy Governor, a balance in politics and professional experience stood out as crucial in this role,” Nyoro said.

He further said that June has extensive experience in the medical sector and has worked vastly with the youth in community service. 

Mwende Gatabaki has also nominated David Wanjohi who is former director of Safina party.

The UDA candidate Kimani Wamatangi hasn’t announced his running mate yet.
