Kibaki wished to be buried next to his late wife Lucy in Othaya

Former president Mwai Kibaki had wished to be buried next to his wife Lucy Kibaki in his Othaya home,Nyeri County.

According to a reliable source, the burial ceremony will be presided over by Nyeri Archbishop Peter Kairo who also presided for the late Lucy Kibaki.

More than 20,000 Kenyans will will attend the burial ceremony which will be at Othaya Approved School grounds, 5 km from former President Mwai Kibaki’s home. 

Less than 300 of the guests will then join the family at the burial site at Mzee Kibaki’s Kanyange residence where the coffin will be lowered into the ground.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the nation to the ceremony.

Just like what happened to late president Moi,Kibaki body will be taken to parliament of Kenya for public to vie.

In honour of President Mwai Kibaki, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that the country observe a period of national mourning from Friday, April 22 until sunset of the day of his interment.

Further, the Kenyan flag will be flown at half-mast across the country and in all Kenyan diplomatic missions abroad.

In his message of condolence to family of the late former President, President Kenyatta said: “while Emilio Mwai Kibaki is no longer with us in body, his spirit, legacy, values and ideals lives on in you and in the limitless ways that he made Kenya immeasurably better.”
