Kilgoris officer denies aiding suspects to flee

A police officer who was on duty when three suspects escaped from Kilgoris Police Station cells was yesterday charged with negligence of duty.

Andrew Cheruiyot Bett was charged with three counts of negligence of official duty under the National Police Service Act.

The three counts are separate charges for the three suspects who escaped from police cell on November 19.

 The escapees were identified as Shadrack Leparan aged 29, Enoch Ndege (28), and Patrick Mausa (32). Leparan faces murder, while the other two face charges of stealing.

Bett appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate Josphat Mungai where he denied the charges and was released on Sh100,000 bond. The case will be mentioned on December .

 A police report says the three suspects escaped after they created a hole on the cell’s wall, by removing some bricks next to the door facing the report office.

 Narok County Police commander John Kizito has called on the members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious person to the authorities to quicken the arrest of the three fugitives.
