In Nakuru County on Friday , a vital civic education initiative was launched, emphasizing the importance of upholding democracy, fairness, and justice.
The current regime’s actions, particularly its harsh response to youth dissent, underscore the urgency of this educational effort.
Rather than silencing young voices, these measures have amplified the need for change and highlighted the critical role of civic education in fostering an informed and active citizenry.
Speaking during the launch of civic education in Nakuru Jubilee Sec. Gen Jeremiah Kioni said this initiative have comes at a time when the government appears more focused on suppressing dissent than addressing the legitimate concerns of its citizens.
“Recent incidents, where protestors have been met with violence, starkly illustrate the regime’s approach to handling opposition. Such tactics, however, do not quell dissent; instead, they intensify the call for reform and greater governmental accountability.
“Civic education is now more crucial than ever. It equips citizens with the knowledge and tools needed to participate meaningfully in democratic processes. By understanding their rights and responsibilities, residents can hold their leaders accountable and advocate for the principles of justice and fairness that underpin a healthy democracy” Kioni said
The program in Nakuru County aims to empower residents, particularly the youth, by fostering a deeper understanding of democratic values and processes.
Through workshops, discussions, and community engagement, participants will learn about their constitutional rights and the importance of civic participation.
The initiative also seeks to create a platform for dialogue, where citizens can express their concerns and aspirations without fear of repression.
In a climate where dissent is met with brutality, the need for civic education becomes even more pressing. It is not merely about informing the public; it is about fortifying the foundations of democracy and ensuring that every voice is heard.
As the residents of Nakuru County engage in this crucial educational effort, they stand as a testament to the resilience and determination of those who believe in a fair and just society.
